the 201.lab website is a place for accessing our new eletronic notebook system (ELN) and information of use to both graduate  and undergraduate laboratory/research students.  remember:  if you are accessing your e-notebook from outside the lab, you will need to download and install the client.

quick note:  if you are installing ELN5.2.2 on the mandriva build of linux, you will need these files (fixit1 and fixit2).  Run fixit1 in the same directory as the 'eln5_2_2.bin' file, run 'eln5_2_2.bin', copy fixit2 to the new eln5.2.2 directory and run fixit2 from the new directory.  easy, peasy.

HAPPY DARWIN DAY!!!
Feb. 12th is officially  Darwin Day ... and the 150th anniversary of the "Origin of the Species".
Check out this page of essays in the u.k.'s guardian.
I still find that my favorite published version is the 1979 illustrated & abridged edition published by Richard Leakey!

i know that we always say to use google.scholar; and everyone uses pub.med.  but, a really nice 'front end' to pubmed has been made public and has some very nice web2.0 and formatting features.  it is called gopubmed!!

since i'm on the topic...  gopubmed is a nice addition to several new reference tools, e.g. zotero (which i like, but has no sharing features (yet)) or connotea (you can see my zp references here!).

this is time well-spend -- much better than facebook!

Things that make you go ... hmmmmmmmmm!!

TRUST, BUT VERIFY.

A very interesting article on the coevolution of waterfowl genitalia.

I suppose we will actually have to videotape our milking and artificial insemination procedures. youtube here we come!

speaking of which ... check out this video for a view of AI in turkey production (you can probably disregard the commentary).

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION -

as we're in the process of preparing a few manuscripts for submission, it's worthwhile to take a peak at this blog; detailing the 5 stages of grief after the rejection of a ms.

(not that i'm a pessimist... )

the ELN Research Collaboratory is a project created and supported by the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory, a division of the Pacific Northwest National Lab.  we are using the SAM server and Electronic Laboratory Notebook client to assist in all our research and education projects.

if you are a member of the lab, you can log in from the top menubar, or here.  here is a primer on how to use the notebook!
